The Historic Hotel Nichols is a charming and well-maintained hotel in the heart of South Haven, consistently praised for its friendly staff, delicious made-to-order breakfasts, and enjoyable happy hour events. Guests appreciate its central location and recent renovations, making it a welcoming and relaxing retreat.
We stayed over MDW and could not have had a better experience. We stayed on a Saturday, and were able to enjoy free happy hour music, drinks and food. The grilled hotdogs from a local butcher were delicious! We also had a yummy scratch made breakfast that was also included with our stay. The owners & employees were extremely kind and welcoming. We also loved how close and walkable everything was from here as well. Could not recommend this place enough!!
Wonderful, charming old building located across street from the River, in view from our room. Located downtown so easy walk to everything. Comfortable, very clean room. All rooms are a bit different layout I think.. Some bathrooms larger than others, so if you need a lot of space, be sure to mention when you book. Beer and wine and soft drinks available in living room at check in. BUT…one of the best things is the made to order, outstanding breakfast. Several choices and all made from scratch. Absolute perfection on my French toast and pancakes! Nearby tables all raved about their choices as well! Definitely recommend!
I briefly visited the town in late September 2024 as I was in the area for a wedding. I was in an unknown world, as it was only my second time visiting the USA, overheated in a suit and deprived of sleep. But, I had the unexpected pleasure to walk into the hotel, as it was the only place open and I was in dire need to sit down and drink something cool. While they were not serving drinks the front office worker was extremely kind and accommodating, offering me a cool bottle of water from their mini fridge. While this may not seem like a big deal, it is for me. As I was finally able to find the hotel on Google and am reviewing it 1,5 years later. It stuck with me. As someone who also works in hospitality I can deeply appreciate genuine hospitality and care in a world of evergrowing fascades and artificiality in this industry. If you are reading this, please don't hesitate to reach out should I ever be able to return the favour. I am a member of the Les Clefs d'Or concierge association based in Slovenia, and would be happy to offer my services as a show of gratitude.
The rooms are historic and well maintained. They are clean and comfortable. The amenities are suburb, with happy hour on Friday and Saturday evenings. Wine and Charcuterie are served. There is a fridge in each room and Breakfast comes with the room. They offer special packages and the location is steps from the heart of South Haven. In the warm weather you can sit in the garden patio outside the hotel. We will return.
We loved this place. Before we even checked in we had a glass of wine during Happy Hour. Check in was easy and informative, our room had already been equipped with a request we had made. The breakfast in the morning was made to order and filling. There was wine tasting next door and the hosts were awesome. Our bed was comfortable, the bathroom looked newly renovated, room was clean. I have zero complaints. The people working there make this a great spot. Location walking distance to all the spots in South Haven. I think you are going to have to book early to get a spot here on most weekends
We have stayed at Hotel Nichols twice with in the past 7months. The hospitality is awesome. We really enjoy the happy hour due to the people we get to talk to. Everyone is super nice. It is relaxing. We love the mix of some modern updates and original architecture the hotel offers. Breakfast if cooked to order and delicious. I cannot wait to go back. Do not hesitate to book your stay here.
We stayed here 15 years ago, and it was pretty run down. Saw some good reviews so decided to give it another try. We loved it. The rooms have been renovated. Very good made-to-order breakfasts. Free happy hour with snacks, wine and beer on weekends. Great location in downtown South Haven.
We have stayed here before and it keeps getting better. The warm, friendly hospitality is unbeatable. The coziness of the room and the warm comfort of the bed is so relaxing in the heart of this lovely town. Walkable to shops, restaurants and the lighthouse and beach, it’s the perfect location! The made to order breakfast is the best in town and the complimentary happy hour is like sitting around your living room with friends. Having this as a dog friendly establishment makes it even better for us! Loved our stay in October and hope to be back.
